Founded under the auspices of the Japan America Society of Colorado, the William and Alice Hosokawa Fellowship Program provides grants annually to create a better understanding of Japan by educating people in Colorado about Japanese history, culture and arts.
The Succesful Grant Applicants for 2008:
The Denver Botanic Gardens for the creation of a Japanese Tea Ceremony Society in the Japanese Garden
The Department of East Asian Languages & Civilizations at CU Boulder for the presentation at the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language in Orlando, Florida
The Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls and Toys for the further study, exhibition and preservation of the Japanese Doll Collection at the museum
Ikebana International for inviting a master teacher from Japan to present a week-long Ikebana demonstration
General Guidelines
Grants are intended to assist Colorado-based individuals and nonprofit 501(c)(3) organizations with projects that promote goodwill and understanding through educational and cultural activities. Fellowships totaling up to $10,000 annually are meant to provide special opportunities for individuals and organizations to promote an understanding of Japan in Colorado.
