The Day of Remembrance, held on February 19th, remembers the over 120,000 persons of Japanese ancestry that were incarcerated in concentration camps during World War II. This day is also a day to educate the public so that this does not recur in any community.

This year, the Japanese American Citizens’ League (JACL) will host a one-act play to honor of past internees and to remember this important part of history. “Within the Silence,” written by Ken Mochizuki and featuring New York actress Alison Hinto, follows a Japanese-American family as they are forced to sell or give away their possessions and then are interned in one of the U.S. internment camps that incarcerated citizens of Japanese heritage.
