Learning Japanese

JASC Japanese language classes are taught by Japanese native Junko Goodwin. Junko has over 20 years of experience in education ranging from teaching ESL to private tutoring to coordinating study abroad experiences. Her classes are relaxed, fun and engaging. Join us!

Due to popular demand JASC will offer both PASSPORT TO JAPAN - PART 1 and PASSPORT TO JAPAN - PART 2 in 2017 !!

PASSPORT 1

You will learn some basic Japanese - especially focused on travel for business or pleasure!  No prior experience with Japan or Japanese language needed. 

This class focuses on:

  • Flying into Narita / Haneda / Traveling in Tokyo
  • Traveling in Kyoto / Osaka / Tohoku (outside of Tokyo)
  • Japanese foods
  • Attending / Participating sporting events in Japan
  • General conversational phrases
  • Gift giving
  • Watching Japanese television

The final class will include some interactive Japanese cultural experiences - all included in the cost of the class.

  • Class will meet on TUESDAY evenings from March 21 - May 9, 2017
  • 8 classes, 2 hours each from 7pm to 9pm (16 total hours of class time)
  • Class will be held at Sakura Square (Mezzanine Room); entrance located on Larimer between 19th and 20th (next to eye doctor)
  • Free parking for class participants in Sakura Square garage. On Rockies game days (4/11, 4/25 and 5/9) parking validations will be provided, but Sakura Square is unable to reserve parking spaces for students. If participants are unable to find space in the garage, parking fees for those days are the responsibility of the participant.

Passport 2

This class builds on the skills covered in the Passport 1 class. You are welcome to join the Passport 2 class if you are comfortable with basic Japanese pronunciation, greetings, introductions and simple sentence format. The instructor will not review these points, as they are covered in Passport 1. 

This class will focuses on:

  • Work / Company relationships
  • Regions of Japan
  • Life in Japan
  • Anime and other pop-culture seen around Japan
  • Verb conjugations
  • Counting and counters - specifically for shopping and ordering
  • Travel-focused vocabulary

 

  • Class will meet on THURSDAY evenings from March 23 - May 18, 2017 (no class April 20)   
  • 8 classes, 2 hours each from 7pm to 9pm (16 total hours of class time)
  • Class will be held at Sakura Square (Mezzanine Room); entrance located on Larimer between 19th and 20th (next to eye doctor)
  • Free parking for class participants in Sakura Square garage. On May 11th, although parking validations will be provided to students, Sakura Square is unable to reserve parking spaces for students due to the Rockies game. If participants are unable to find space in the garage, parking fees for those days are the responsibility of the participant.
