Welcome!
Posted by JASC on Tue 15th Dec 2009
Welcome to the new look of jascolorado.org! We hope you enjoy the new layout, and find it easier to navigate than the previous site.
The year 2010 is going to be focused much more on our members than recent years. We aim to provide our members with monthly activities that enable you all to interact with, and learn from, each other. Once all the events have been laid out, we will be posting a calendar of events on the site—so watch this space!
JASC is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, which relies solely on the support of its members and sponsors. In particular, our corporate sponsors donate a great deal of financial support to us annually; as such, we have an improved sponsor section on the site, to show how grateful we are for their recognition of the work we do and for providing us the means to achieve our goals.
In addition, we will soon have a feature which enables visitors to renew their membership or join for the first time—saving time and natural resources.
We would love to hear from you!
Once you’ve had a chance to look over the site, please get in touch and let us know your thoughts. Without our members we would not be here, so we aim to please as many of you as we can. Email or phone in (303-592-5364) with any comments or suggestions you might have.
Thank you for visiting our site, and for your interest in our organization. We look forward to serving you as we continue to aim for our goal of promoting mutual understanding and commerce between the people of Japan and Colorado.
では、よろしくお願い致します。

New Executive Director
Posted by JASC on Tue 15th Dec 2009
In October, Dilek Eccles joined the JASC as its new Executive Director.
Dilek is originally from Iowa, where she began her Japanese language studies at Urbandale High School. After graduating from the University of Iowa, and spending an intense summer immersed in Nihongo at Middlebury College, Dilek headed for Japan. She worked for the Japanese Government in Yamanashi Prefecture as a Coordinator of International Relations for the JET Program.
After two years in Japan she moved to London, where she enjoyed designing and promoting tours around Japan and China for an Asian tour operator. Dilek lived in London for four years, returning to the States after her long stint abroad in June 2009.
She is excited about her new role, and is eager to foster stronger communication and understanding between the people of Colorado and Japan.

Sumo Shinnenkai!
Posted by JASC on Tue 15th Dec 2009
As a way to thank all our new and renewed members of 2009, JASC will be holding a sumo shinnenkai (New Year’s party)!
Sumo is the quintessential Japanese sport, and it can be difficult to see outside of the country. Every January in Tokyo, the first tournament of the year is held, and we would like to invite you to join us as we show footage from 2010’s tournament!
Here are the details:
Date: Sunday, 17 January
Time: 12:30 pm onwards
Location: Breckenridge Brewery, 2220 Blake Street in Denver. We will have private use of their back room.
Cost: $5 per person
There will be an assortment of nibbles for everyone, and the Brewery restaurant will be open as normal (the menu can be seen here: http://www.breckbrew.com/menus/BlakeSt.pdf).
This will be an excellent opportunity to get together and meet other JASC members, while also enjoying some sumo!
Please RSVP by Friday, January 8th.
Not a member? Forgot to renew? There is still time, and with a lot of exciting member events coming up in 2010, this is a great time to join!
