This concert and art show are an Asian-inspired art experience pairing Taiko drums with Chinese orchid painting. Taiko is an ancient Japanese form of ensemble drumming that is physically demanding and artistically based. In its modern form, the performers are connecting to the act of drumming through four principles that include attitude, Kata (form), technique and ki (energy).
Art Show: Phyllis Rostykus
Phyllis Rostykus focuses on traditional, minimalist compositions, using little more than ink, paper, and brush to represent a myriad of living things in the natural world. For meditation and solace, she goes back to doing only black and white, ink on unsized paper, in three dilutions to emulate light and shadow. Then she moves on to incorporate the natural elements of colorful Colorado.
