Japan America Society of Colorado offers Japanese classes throughout the year geared towards people planning a trip to Japan - whether for business or pleasure, these classes will get you ready! Classes are taught by Junko Goodwin-sensei. Junko is a native Japanese speaker, experienced teacher and the Managing Director of Global Kids Education. Goodwin-sensei has been teaching these classes for several years and is very popular with her students. Classes fill up quickly, so register today or request to be put on our mailing list for the next open enrollment period.

University of Colorado in Boulder is currently accepting applications for their intensive summer Japanese courses. Dates are as follows: Term A: June 3-July 5, Term B: July 9-August 9. Each course is worth 5 credits. Courses offered are:

  • Beginning Japanese 1 and 2

  • Intermediate Japanese 1 and 2

  • Advanced Japanese 1 and 2

This intensive Japanese program of CU in Boulder is a perfect opportunity for those who want to complete language requirements in a short term or earn language credits to meet the graduation requirements faster, or anyone who wants to advance his/her Japanese language skills. For more information, click here. PASSPORT TO JAPAN: LEVEL 1- Beginner

FULL- This class will be offered in again in the fall of 2019. Check back for details or request to be added to our class announcement list (below).

You will learn some basic Japanese - especially focused on travel for business or pleasure! No prior experience with Japan or Japanese language needed. This class focuses on:

  • Flying into Narita / Haneda / Traveling in Tokyo

  • Traveling in Kyoto / Osaka / Tohoku (outside of Tokyo)

  • Japanese foods

  • Attending / Participating sporting events in Japan

  • General conversational phrases

  • Gift giving

  • Watching Japanese television

  • The final class will include some interactive Japanese cultural experiences (class price inclusive).

Class will meet on Thursday evenings for 8 weeks. Free parking for class participants in Sakura Square parking garage. *Parking is available, but not guaranteed for June 13th, due to the evening Rockies baseball game.

  • DATES: May 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 and June 6, 13, 20

  • TIME: 7pm to 9pm (16 total hours of class time)

  • LOCATION: Sakura Square (Mezzanine Room); entrance located on Larimer between 19th and 20th (next to eye doctor)

Passport to Japan: Level 2- Beginner ++

This class will be offered again in fall of 2019. Check back for details or request to be added to our class announcement list (below).

This class builds on the skills covered in the Passport 1 class. You are welcome to join the Passport 2 class if you are comfortable with basic Japanese pronunciation, greetings, introductions and simple sentence format. The instructor will not review these points, as they are covered in Passport 1. This class focuses on:

  • Work /Company relationships

  • Regions of Japan

  • Life in Japan

  • Anime and other pop-culture seen around Japan

  • Verb conjugations

  • Counting and counters - specifically for shopping and ordering

  • Travel-focused vocabulary

Class will meet on Monday evenings for 8 weeks. Free parking for class participants in Sakura Square parking garage.

  • DATES: April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 May 6, 20, 27

  • TIME: 7pm to 9pm (16 total hours of class time)
